Volunteer With Us
Be the Reason a Neighbor Smiles!
Each spring, over 2,500 volunteers come together to make Paint Your Heart Out Tampa possible. In just one coordinated day, we transform more than 100 homes belonging to low-income seniors, veterans, and disabled residents, completely free of charge. This powerful display of unity and generosity has changed thousands of lives across our city since 1989.
And It All Starts With You!
Who Can Volunteer?
Volunteer painters must be at least 18 years old and able to participate in light outdoor labor such as prepping, painting, or cleanup. No prior experience is needed. We provide all the guidance, materials, and team assignments.
If you’re part of a business, civic group, school, or faith organization, we encourage you to volunteer as a team. Most paint crews include 12 to 25 people and are assigned to a single home.
Younger Volunteers Are Welcome!
We’re proud to offer a Paint Day opportunity for high school students (under 18). These volunteers can assist at our Distribution Center, where they help with sorting, organizing, and passing out supplies to teams across the city. It’s a great way to get involved, earn service hours, and make a difference.

Common Volunteer Questions
Who can volunteer?
Anyone age 18 or older can take part in Paint Day. Whether you’re volunteering on your own or with a group, no painting experience is required. We welcome individuals, schools, clubs, and companies. Volunteers should be able to stand, move around, and work outdoors for several hours with basic guidance. All tools and materials are provided.
Can high school students help out?
Yes. Students under 18 can participate by volunteering at our Distribution Center. They help prepare and organize supplies, support logistics teams, and ensure materials reach our painters efficiently. It’s a great way for younger people to get involved and earn service hours.
Do I need painting experience?
No experience is necessary. Each team is led by a Team Leader who will walk everyone through the process. Tasks are divided by skill and comfort level, and we provide all the tools and instructions needed to paint safely and effectively.
What should I wear or bring?
Wear comfortable clothes that can get stained with paint. Closed-toe shoes are required for safety. We recommend bringing sunscreen, a refillable water bottle, a hat, and sunglasses. If you have your own painting gloves or tools, you’re welcome to bring them, though everything is provided.
Can I volunteer with my friends or coworkers?
Absolutely. Many people volunteer as part of a group. When registering, let us know your group name or contact person so we can do our best to assign you to the same location. It’s a great team-building experience and an easy way to give back together.
How long does Paint Day last?
Paint Day typically runs from early morning through early afternoon. Most homes are completed within four to six hours, depending on team size and the home’s condition. Volunteers are asked to arrive on time, stay for the duration, and help with setup and cleanup as needed.
